Recently, we expanded the Competence Center's network through a new cooperation agreement with the West University of Timișoara (UVT) under DTEClimate - Competence Center for Climate Change Digital Twin for Earth forecasts and societal redressment.
The collaboration with UVT will focus on research and development initiatives that leverage Earth observation data and artificial intelligence technologies for developing advanced predictive models for the benefit of society and, particularly, for understanding and mitigating climate change impacts.
A video highlight of the event is available from UVT
In 2025, POLITEHNICA Bucharest established partnerships with both NGOs and national institutions, strengthening our collaborative framework and establishing the competence center's network of excellence. These partnerships enable joint research initiatives, improved data sharing, and the co-development of tools and methodologies that support environmental resilience, climate change adaptation, and informed decision-making.
For example, two of our ongoing partners are the Romanian National Center for Cartography (CNC) and the World Wide Fund for Nature Romania (WWF Romania).
CNC’s expertise in LiDAR data processing and high-precision geospatial analysis supports the AI4DTE subproject for improved environmental parameter estimation, particularly in the calibration of forest canopy height models, which are important for understanding vegetation dynamics under a changing climate. WWF’s expertise in ecosystem monitoring, environment, and climate is greatly valued by several of our subprojects, particularly AI4DTE and EO4NATURE. Building on the collaboration agreement, POLITEHNICA Bucharest and WWF already participate as partners in a separate research activity on energy and urban adaptive land reuse.
