About DTEClimate Competence Center

"Competence Center for Climate Change Digital Twin for Earth Forecasts and Societal Redressment: DTEClimate" aims to consolidating a national network of excellence that will contribute and align Romania's strategy for adaptation to climate change to the European framework

University POLITEHNICA Bucharest coordinates the implementation of the complex project DTEClimate to develop and operationalize a national Competence Center in the field of climate change adaptation. It aims to bring together a critical mass of experts and contribute to the development of the necessary skills to address societal challenges in the theme of climate change and Earth observation.

National Network of Excellence

DTEClimate has the support of a wide community of users, including central and local public authorities and organizations from the non-governmental sector that will actively support the expansion of public-private partnerships and the development of a culture of real and effective cooperation between the research environment and industry.

Domain and focus

The Competence Center aims to develop:

  • solutions for climate change at the human activity scales, from localized to broader areas and from immediate to medium-term periods.
  • Digital Twin Earth (DTE) components integrating Earth Observation and in-situ data with artificial intelligence, deep learning, and quantum technologies for applications in biodiversity, hydrology, geophysics, health, urban planning and more.

Organization

The Competence Centre is formally structured into the following:

  • General Assembly - chaired by the Complex Project Coordinator, this is the main decision-making body, bringing together representatives of all active partners and project coordinators to oversee strategy, progress monitoring for ongoing projects and contractual matters
  • Stakeholders Advisory Board – composed of public authorities, policymakers, businesses and service providers supporting climate change adaptation strategies and stakeholder engagement.
  • Science Advisory Board – an independent group of national and European experts providing scientific, technological, regulatory, societal and business-oriented guidance for the project’s focus areas.

After the official end of the DTEClimate project, the Competence Center continues its mission through on-going collaborations and projects.

Moving forward, we are interested in strengthening collaborations between research institutions, public authorities, industry and civil society to support activities fighting climate change and advancing Earth observation excellence, aligned with national and European policies.
