Strengthening the Academic Environment for DTEClimate

Despite the progress in AI and Earth Observation (EO) technologies, there are still large gaps in our knowledge for modelling and understanding the effects of climate changes at the scale of human activity. Among the main objectives of the project, we have to increase the awareness and to leverage academia to act to create a robust knowledge base for action. In this spirit, the project stimulates academic activities, i.e. master courses to include in their curricula relevant elements as understanding of climate processes, EO, advanced technologies, adaptation technologies, or societal aspects.

In this context in the frame of the master Intelligent Systems and Computer Vision (SIVA) https://www.master-siva.ro, at the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology (ETTI), POLITEHNICA Bucharest, were introduced new advanced courses and modern teaching methods. Modern teaching paradigms, as active learning https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_learning are creating a helix of theory and practice. In very close interaction with the students, during the lectures the theoretical notions are consolidated by practical applications. The following pitches are short movies presenting the results of semester projects implemented by students of the master courses Big Data Mining and Project Engineering and Management from the SIVA master program. These are mini-prototypes for a next generation of Digital Twin Earth (DTE) systems including also societal components.
