The National Research and Development Institute for Earth Physics (INCDFP) is the primary governmental agency responsible for monitoring seismic activity, conducting fundamental research in Earth physics, and assessing seismic hazards. Founded in 1977 and operating the Romanian Seismic Network, it provides real-time data on earthquake location, magnitude, and characteristics.

INCDFP actively coordinates research activities at the national level, particularly in seismology and general Earth physics, providing scientific, technological, and consulting services to protect people and infrastructure from earthquakes and natural hazards and acting as a national representative in international organizations and boards.
