REACTIVE Extreme Events Portal https://reactive.infp.ro/events/index.php
The initiative responds to growing concerns about the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather - from sudden storms and heavy rainfall to heatwaves and rapid temperature swings - that affect communities, infrastructure, and local ecosystems.
The platform is designed to collect and centralize data on extreme phenomena observed across Romania, from official and collective sources. The events, along with metadata descriptions, are displayed on an interactive map. Thus, it allows both scientists and citizens a shared space to document unusual meteorological events in near-real time.
The Extreme Events platform has a dedicated section https://extremev.infp.ro/ where anyone can report unusual events they encounter by submitting first-hand observations (date, time, location, etc.) and uploading photographs for support.
This allows REACTIVE to build a broader, ground-up dataset that complements official measurements. It is the first of its kind citizens science initiative in Romania.
We invite everyone to take part in this collective effort: your contributions will help understand the local changing climate effects and better support risk management and adaptation strategies.
